Creating a communal allotment from a bare plot

Whitchurch Town Council

Creating a communal allotment from a bare plot

Case Study

Whitchurch Town Council, in north-west Hampshire, has been a client of Scofell’s since 2018.

We make fortnightly maintenance visits to cut the grass and hedges, to keep the two recreation grounds and the cemetery looking tidy. And we have a five-year plan for coppicing the hazel trees, keeping them under control while still providing a habitat for wildlife.

A landscaping project in 2022 involved creating a plot in the allotments to be given over to the local community. Working alongside the town council, we cleared the overgrown plot, put in rabbit fencing, and built raised planters containing herbs and edible plants, as well as planting apple trees and creating a small wildflower meadow.

We have also been able to give rapid assistance to remove some dangerous and fallen trees in a conservation area.

Work Completed:
  • Created a community allotment
  • Built raised planters
  • Planted fruit trees and a wildflower meadow

Client Testimonial

“The Town Council is delighted to have worked with Scofell to bring this decommissioned allotment plot back into use for the community. Having personally worked with Scofell for almost 3 years, I have always found them to be extremely helpful, quick to respond and willing to offer guidance and advice to ensure that our grounds are maintained to a high standard.”
