Edenbrook & Grove Farm

Creating an 82-acre country park beside a housing development

Case Study

Edenbrook is a housing development by Berkeley Homes near Fleet, in Hampshire, bordering Edenbrook Country Park – a newly created 82-acre area of green space and woodland.

Scofell Landscapes was brought in to maintain the country park with its large open spaces, footpaths and ponds, in line with Berkeley Homes’ management plan. Our regular tasks included grass cutting, path clearance and litter picking as well as general maintenance and treating invasive weed species. We planted hedgerows, dredged ditches and cleared reeds from the reed beds.

Work Completed:
  • Planted hedgerows and dredged ditches
  • Installed litter bins, benches and footbridges
  • Planted native trees

Our Work at Edenbrook

Scofell’s involvement at Edenbrook has been extended to include a much wider area of greenspace, known as the Grove Farm SANG (suitable alternative natural greenspace). Together with the country park, it will provide 155 acres of recreational open space, including a BMX track, picnic facilities, areas for bird watching and a trim trail for strength-building exercises.

A team from Scofell started on the project in the summer of 2021. We have already installed litter bins, seats and picnic benches, timber footbridges, signage, culvert crossings, boundary fences and gates.

Wildflower species have been introduced to increase the diversity of the flora across the site and to encourage insects and small mammals.

Scofell’s arborists have been busy on the site. Over the winter of 2021/22, we planted native trees in large copse formations, to provide natural cover for the wildlife and create points of interest around the site. We carried out a detailed tree safety inspection on the many mature trees already on the site, including oak trees, ash, willow and alder, and have now implemented all our recommendations.

Scofell will continue to maintain the entire area until the Grove Farm SANG is handed over to the local authority, Hart District Council, in 2023.

Client Testimonial

“Scofell Landscapes have completed a Berkeley project for the Open Space Landscaping and Maintenance at Edenbrook Village which went well, and was a superb project overall. Scofell are currently working on the Grove Farm project and Open Space SANG area, where again the level of cover and diligence is to a top level.”
